I was born in South Africa, and moved to Australia in my mid-twenties. I am still in constant re-interpretation of the conflict between art and life, beauty and reality, necessity and comfort. I paint, install, photograph and film the changing and demanding world around me sometimes crying for bright colour, sometimes eliminating it all with a demand for the freedom to walk safely at night. My present project in paint film and video is a study of the night. I love Brecht’s quote about art in dark times, where he wonders how art can exist in dark times, but plainly says that in terrifying times we write paint or sing bout those times. As we enter into a fight for our lives our planet, refugees and our rights, my art is inseparable from this era.
I present a multimedia mix of installation, video, photography, painting, and printed material.
I have a Master in Contemporary Art form the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. I am a life member of the National Tertiary Education Union.
